Objectives and Strategies

Our objectives and strategies (or “plans”) are the things we intend to do over the next 1 – 5 years to advance the Trust’s mission, and realise our shared vision for Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō.

In setting these plans we have had to be mindful of the realities of:

  • what we do and do not know about member’s needs and aspirations;
  • our organisational capabilities; and
  • the resources we have available in the short and medium-term.

The plan is also intended to:

  • provide visibility over all of the things we intend to do;
  • provide transparency about what we achieve, and to give you a way of deciding whether we are effective or not;
  • gives us a framework for reconciling and prioritising our different objectives; and
  • gives us a frame of reference for approaching and moving on new opportunities and challenges.

We note that some elements of our plans are simply about building the knowledge, awareness, and capabilities that will serve as a platform for our longer-term development. In this sense this plan is a starting point, not an end point for what we intend to do. Year-on-year we intend to update this plan as we build a stronger basis for setting a course well into the future.

We think a good way of articulating each of our objectives is with reference to the relationships we have with different stakeholders, which is how we have organised our plans in this part.

These include the following:

  • Haumi / Investments;
  • Te Taiao / The Environment;
  • Te Whanaungatanga me te Kawanatanga / Central and Local Government Relationship;
  • Te Mana Whakahaere / Organisational Performance; and
  • Nga Hononga / Other iwi.
