OBJECTIVE 6 - Exploring opportunities for Marae development

Having a tūrangawaewae - a place to stand, where our rangatiratanga is exercised and where our customs and practices are upheld, is critical to safeguarding our culture and the mana of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō.

We understand the deep desire within each hapū for the development of Marae. We are committed to making this happen in time. In addition, we will continue to acknowledge and support Omaka Marae as an important tūrangawaewae for many Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō whānau.

How will we do this?

We intend to give special and careful consideration to the range of views on this important take. We feel that this is not a process that should be rushed, but we will be establishing a special board sub-committee that will be responsible for a sensible process for collecting views and defining the issues and decisions that need to be taken without undue delay.

How can you tell if we have been effective?

Within a year:

  • We will have established a board sub-committee, which will have developed a process for exploring options for future Marae; and
  • Have given you the opportunity to express your views on future Marae development as part of our consultation with you.
