Moemoeā – Our Vision

Kia tu pakari ai te whare o Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō

Our vision for Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō is for a strong, vibrant, and proud iwi which exercises and realises its rangatiratanga.

Our vision for the Trust is for an effective and responsive organisation that utilises its resources efficiently to meet the needs and aspirations of members, while also providing for future generations.

This vision is underlined by 'whāia te iti kahurangi' - the continuous pursuit of excellence.

Ngā Mātāpono/Our Values

The values that inform both our vision and mission, as well as how we go about bringing them into effect, include:

Kotahitanga:
unity of purpose among and between whānau, hapū and iwi, and an agreed direction towards a shared vision;

Kaitiakitanga:
guardianship of our resources and taonga;

Manaakitanga:
caring for the mana and well-being of all iwi members;

Whānaungatanga:
developing and strengthening the bonds that link us together;

Whakapapa:
a framework that connects each other to generations past and future;

Rangatiratanga:
expression of the attributes of a rangatira – humility, leadership by example, generosity, diplomacy and professionalism; the ability to create and control our destiny; and do what we do with integrity and self-determination;

Te Reo me ngā Tikanga:
recognising and promoting that the language is the repository of all that we are as Māori. Our language and cultural practices are how we express our unique Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō cultural identity and world view. We must halt the decline and develop cultural practitioners to uphold the mana of the iwi into the future; and

Whenua/Manawhenua:
recognising our ancestral relationship with the whenua and environs. “Toitū te whenua, whatu ngarongaro he tangata.”

Whāinga/Our Mission

We believe that having a clear view of our mission or purpose as an organisation is critical to ensuring that our plans are formed in the right context, and we are directed at achieving the right things.

In our initial Five-year Plan, we saw the Trust’s mission as covering four main areas:

1. Whakahiatu Ora Tipu/Social Development

2. Te Whakahaumanu Ahurea/Cultural Development

3. Kaitiakitanga/Environmental Responsibilities

4. Te Mana Whakahaere/Organisational Development

In this our new Five-year plan we have decided to articulate these concepts in a slightly different way, which reflects:
• the progress towards achievement of some of our goals;
• a deeper understanding of our Mission; and
• our development as an organisation.

From research, feedback from iwi members and further reflection, we believe our Mission could be categorised into four highly interrelated focus areas:

1. Te Whakahaumanu Ahurea/Cultural Development

2. Pito Mata/Realising Potential

3. Tūhononga/Facilitating Connection

4. Whakahaerenga/Stewardship & Growth
