Tēnā koutou whānau
It’s normally this time of the year that we tend to check our task list and start the frantic rush to get those last tasks completed, then of course there is buying presents, organising Xmas Day and planning where we will be on New Year’s Eve.
There is definitely a feeling that it is coming to the end of the year - and what a year 2015 has been. Much of our activity this year has been focused on building a good platform to move forward on, which has allowed us to really focus on the iwi Strategic Plan and to achieving the goals within it.
We have made some great progress on your behalf and there are still some meaty projects to be completed, plus we are finding that, as we have increased our engagement a whole range of new opportunities have presented themselves. These will be explored next year.
Over the past 12 months we have audited all of our business and operational practices including;
- workplace & wananga Health & Safety (to ensure we are fully compliant)
- finance, accounting, banking services, administration and records management
- insurance, compliance, liabilities
- IT & Communications (including web site and iwi database);
From this process we have introduced;
- business & action plans;
- communication strategy (monthly panui, weekly news line, refreshed website);
- improved IT systems (including improved database management);
- best business practice for finance & accounting, administration;
- improved operating procedures
We have also renegotiated all of our contracts for leasing the iwi ACE quota, which is and will continue to bring improved returns. We have also increased our engagement on your behalf with a wide range of stakeholders, from central and local government to education, health and community groups.
With this stronger profile we have seen an increase in registrations and iwi member participation with record numbers attending our wānanga and AGM. All in all it has certainly been a busy and prosperous year for Ngati Apa ki te Rā Tō.
I would like to acknowledge the work of Team Apa, our small, dedicated, hardworking team who have worked tirelessly alongside me this year, through what has been a very fast-paced and changing environment.
I believe that, through their mahi and commitment, we now have a well-functioning, effective organisation, which is more productive and now offers a professional business front for our iwi.
We will be closing the office for the holiday season at 4pm Tuesday 22 December and will reopen on Tuesday 5th January 2016.
May I take this opportunity on behalf of the team to wish you and your whānau a happy and safe festive and holiday season, and offer our thanks for your support throughout 2015, we look forward to the challenges and successes that 2016 will bring.
Meri Kirihimete me ngā mihi o te tau hou ki a koutou katoa
