Tēnā koutou e te whānau
Well winter has definitely made its presence felt with temperatures dropping across the country. However, as the photos show - the team has been busy keeping warm through promoting our name.
Our Chair will cover the details of last Friday’s event at parliament in his segment, along with an update of what’s to come.
The team has finished their work on ensuring our contact database is correct and up to date. They amended around 11% of the information from the calls made, but their real work is yet to commence. We have seen a slight reduction in the GNA’s (Got No Address) but at this stage it is only minor so this will be next on the list.
2017 Iwi Board Elections Update
The elections are getting closer and it is important that we have your current address. If you have recently moved and those who were working on the database update did not manage to talk with you, please get in touch with us to update your information.
Omaka Marae is hosting a Whānau Day on 2nd September and the AGM on the 3rd September. We’ll be providing regular updates on the 2 day event.
South Island Landless Natives Act – Heaphy
The purpose of the research is to produce a list of potential current owners. This is based upon lines of derivation and whakapapa back to the original owners for the unallocated SILNA block at Whakapoai, with the Port Adventure block expected to be researched later in the year.
The methodology and mechanism for determining ownership is set out in the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act 1998, meaning that all potential owners will need to be validated by information contained in the Māori Land Court record. A copy of the final list will be deposited with the Māori Land Court (MLC) and with TPK.
In particular the researcher is looking for contact with the Mahuika whānau and the Ruka whānau. If you can assist please contact Mike Quinn at email@example.com
