The past few weeks have seen us focus on ensuring all aspects of the preparations for the election process have been approved and are in place. Having achieved this, the process has begun with the calling for nominations of candidates seeking election.
Update on preparations for 2017 Iwi Board Elections
With just over 3 months before the elections it is timely to update progress. Omaka Marae will host the event with a Whānau Day on the 2nd and the AGM on the 3rd September 2017, forms for ‘Nominations for Candidates’ seeking election have been posted on the web site and hard copies are also available at the office.
We are promoting the option for nomination in our weekly email newsletter, along with a special reminder on Monday 29th May, plus there are also advertisements in a number of newspapers; Manawatu Evening Standard, Dominion, Marlborough Express and the Christchurch Press. This part of the process closes next week, on Wednesday 31 May 2017.
Ongoing work on our database
The team have been updating our contact database to ensure we have the correct information on all of our members. At the time of writing our amendment rate was sitting at around 11%, of the calls made and we will have a total review completed by the end of May.
There has been a slight reduction of the GNA’s (Got No Address) but at this stage it is only minor, around 20, our next stage will be a further focus on these.
Exercise Southern Katipo 2017
The top of the south will again play host to some 12 invited nations who will be undertaking a range of exercises in Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, Westport and Greymouth, early October to late November this year.
The exercises and activities will run across the regions, 9 locations in all and the NZDF will be meeting with ports, iwi, councils and private individuals to discuss the event, seek permission for land use and answer any questions. We’ll keep you updated as the time draws near.
Whakapapa Advisor Update
Thank you to all those who expressed an interest in this position, applications have now closed and we are about to move to the interview process, to meet with and interview the candidates to access their suitability for the role. If a candidate is successful in securing the role, it is expected that they would commence in approximately late July.
