From the GM
Tēnā koutou e te iwi,
For many of us, an unusual year has been compounded by the loss of a loved one – to all whānau pani we send aroha.
It was with sadness that we learned last month of the passing of another iwi identity, kaumatua Te Reo Hemi. Te Reo played a key role within the iwi leadership as a trustee over five terms and, from his home base at Rātana Pā, he maintained strong connections to the iwi and the rohe.
This year, we also lost Aunty Isobel Smith (nee Macdonald). Aunty Isobel made a key contribution to the revitalisation and leadership of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō and was a long-time supporter. This month, we pay tribute to them both. Without such people helping guide us, the iwi would not be where it is today.
