Nau mai, haere mai
After an awesome debut, the Te Pātaka o Wairau Māori Night Market is back! It’s a great night that celebrates Te Ao Māori, and this time around it will be held in Blenheim’s Seymour Square on Friday, September 14, from 4pm to 9pm.
The market is being organised under the korowai of Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Rangitāne ō Wairau, as an opportunity for the growing number of Māori businesses to show off their wares.
“We’re sharing the theme 'Kia Kaha te Reo Māori’ because the event coincides with Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori commemorating the presentation of the 1972 petition on the Māori Language to Parliament, and on Friday it’s actually Māori Language Day!” says project manager, Dr. Lorraine Eade.
“We want to encourage people to celebrate September as Mahuru Māori and dedicate some space and time to speaking Māori.”
