Ngā taonga tuku iho

This photograph was taken in Kawatiri/Westport sometime between 1924 and 1929.

Pictured at left is Hinemoa McDonnell, nee Mahuika, who was the third daughter of Heeni Turoa and Hoani Mahuika. She was born in Kawatiri/Westport and was married to (1) Te Wera McDonnell and (2) Kingi Hori te Pā.  She raised all her family in Levin, Horowhenua. She passed away in 1934 and is buried in Horowhenua.

Tiemi “Jimmy” James White, pictured in the middle, was the son of Heeni Turoa and James White. He lived all his life at Kawatiri, Westport and is buried in the Orowaiti “Oruaiti” Middle Cemetery. He never married or had children. His occupation was a miner. He passed away in 1929, aged 69 years.

Heeni Titi “Jeannie” McLaren, nee Mahuika, right, was the second daughter of Heni Turoa and Hoani Mahuika. She was born in Kawatiri/Westport and lived her whole life there. She was married to (1) Leonard Phillips, to whom she had one daughter “Rora” known more affectionately as “Didi”. Her second husband was Daniel McLaren to whom she had six children. Her third husband was Rihari Tahuaroa Watson to whom she had one daughter “Frances Poroaki Warren nee Watson. Jeannie passed away in 1934 and is buried in the Orowaiti “Oruaiti” Middle Cemetery.
