Rā Whānau

A big Rā Whānau to Harper Philson, of Auckland, mokopuna of Liz Pirie; Axel Annan, of Rātana, and Mia Tauapai, of Melbourne. These three tamariki are now off to school with their cool Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Education Starter Packs. If you have tamariki or mokopuna who are about to turn 5 and are not registered, be sure to sign them up!

Tapawera blessing

A new kindergarten has opened in Tapawera and Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō were on hand to help mark this special occasion. Situated in a former Tapawera Area School classroom, the early-childhood facility provides locals with options for children aged 2 to 5. Cultural Advisor Kiley Nepia conducted the blessing at the request of kindergarten representatives, with area school pupils also in attendance. Ka mau te wehi Tapawera Kindy! Here’s to a great future.

Otago University conference

‘Encounters and Exchanges: Exploring the history of science, technology, medicine, and mātauranga’ is a conference being held in Blenheim by Otago University at the start of December. The conference is especially interested in analysing the implications for the global history of science, technology, medicine, and indigenous knowledge. If whānau are interested in attending, please contact the office ASAP to take advantage of a special rate for iwi members. Visit to see the programme and for more information.

Kaumatua, you will shortly receive a letter regarding the annual Christmas manaaki. Please confirm your address and bank details and return the form to the office in the pre-paid envelope provided to ensure payment is made.
