Grants and Scholarships

We have a number of grants and scholarships available to support our members on their education journey.

It is also recommended to apply for your relevant scholarship AND an education grant, as only one scholar is able to be funded each year. If you are successful in receiving a scholarship, your education grant for that round will be automatically declined.

Grants – offered twice a year

  • Education Grants: Open to registered members of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō who are undertaking tertiary study.
  • Trades Training Grants: Open to registered members of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō who are undertaking trades training or trade apprenticeships.

Scholarships – Offered Once a Year

  • Kath Hemi Kaimanawa Scholarship: Created in 2019 to support the revitalisation of te reo Māori. Open to registered iwi members studying towards a tertiary qualification majoring in te reo Māori.
  • Mangatāwhai Pakihi Scholarship: Created in 2021 to provide a pathway for iwi members to be a part of our commercial future. This scholarship incorporates employment opportunities, pathways, internships, and mentoring.
  • Rotomairewhenua Taiao Scholarship: Created in 2021 to invest in the future taiao interests of the iwi. Open to registered iwi members studying towards a tertiary qualification majoring in an environmental field.
  • The June Robinson Kuru Pounamu Memorial Scholarship: Created in 2024 in honour of Whaea June Robinson to support registered iwi members studying towards a tertiary qualification in health and wellbeing. Priority is given to applicants studying Māori models of health or demonstrating a commitment to encouraging hauora for our whānau.
