Cultural Update

The biennial Te Waipounamu Kapa Haka competitions were held in Whakatū on October 29. Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō was proud to be the platinum sponsor for this event. It was so encouraging seeing so many of our Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō whānau members, from our babies all the way through to our pakeke take to the stage.
The highlight was seeing Te Kura Kaupapa o Tuia te Matangi perform their bracket with such understanding and emotion. They even received a standing ovation.
E ngā tauira o Tuia te Matangi he tauira koutou nā te Whare Tapere o Hine te Rehia rāua ko Tāne Rorerore. We are awaiting some pictures from the official photographer and will include them in next month’s pānui.
We also know that many of our whānau are preparing to take to the stage at Te Matatini next year at Hawke's Bay and Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō is keen on supporting this kaupapa as we know Māori performing arts is an easy entry point for a lot of our people. Please let us if you are performing next year and we will see how we may be able to assist.
