Danya Linton was among the 23 recipients awarded Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trust Education Grant in the 2018 round.
My name is Danya Linton. I was born in and have grown up in South Auckland. I’m 21 years old, and currently I’m a student at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
This year is my final year studying towards a Bachelor of Science. Throughout my studies I have been taught about core science subjects such as microbiology, ecology, and geography which have given me a good base of scientific understanding. I have also been able to carry out field studies and sampling in more specialised papers too. These have been studying water clarity in the Whitianga Harbour for my oceanography class, exploring Auckland’s many volcanoes, and studying animal behaviour at Auckland Zoo.
New Zealand’s environment and ecosystems have been a large part of my studies, along with the conservation of our native species. I have chosen the most of my papers to focus on this area as that is where my passion for science lies.
