Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō was proud to support the University of Otago’s recent Encounters and Exchanges conference, which was held in Blenheim December 1-3.
The conference saw more than 100 academics from across the globe gather to explore the history of science, technology, medicine and mātauranga (indigenous knowledge) over two jam-packed days.
The conference opened with a pōwhiri at Omaka Marae, and Cultural Advisor Kiley Nepia along with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia Environmental Manager and Tōtaranui 250 Trust Chair Raymond Smith, closed the conference with plenary sessions focused on the revitalisation of their respective iwi.
Thank you to Associate Professor Hugh Slotten of the University’s School of Social Sciences, Professor Tony Ballantyne, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Humanities), and Tuari Potiki, Director of the university’s Office of Māori Development, for your warmth and kinship (and the titi!).
