Nau mai Rowena

Meet Rowena Smith, a new face in the office. Rowena started working with the iwi last month in a newly created Projects Manager position. She is pictured above with administrator Georgia Gapper at the iwi’s AGM last month.
Kia ora, my name’s Rowena Smith. I have just moved back to Aotearoa with my family after nine years living in Western Australia. I grew up in Ōtautahi, however we chose to settle in Marlborough as Ōtautahi is too cold for us now! As a family we are really looking forward to settling into the lifestyle and we can’t wait to explore this beautiful part of the world.
In WA, I worked in design and construction, and more recently spent some time working in a community centre providing support for indigenous and minority groups. It was a very isolated town, however this work allowed me to make connections and form friendships that will be forever cherished. Despite the great community spirit of this small town, my husband and I decided it was time to bring our children home.
I feel privileged to be offered the role of Project Manager at Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trust. There is a bright future ahead for the iwi and I am excited to be part of this journey with you all. Please do come and say ‘hi’ next time you are by the office.
