Pūtea for planting on your marae
Posted on 13 October 2020
Te Uru Rākau (Forestry New Zealand) is providing funds to iwi, hapū and whānau to plant trees on publicly accessible whenua and marae during Matariki, which coincides with the 2021 tree planting season.
Trees can be planted to commemorate rangatira, tīpuna, kaumātua and members of your whānau who have shown valued qualities in service, leadership, and other work. The Matariki Tu Rākau grant provides money for trees including rongoā rākau (preferably native, regionally appropriate species), the running of a community event including the cost of kai, a contribution to clearance and maintenance costs and a commemorative plaque.
The grant covers applications up to 1 hectare in size.
