It was great to see rangatahi from across Te Tauihu come together for the recent secondary schools Taku Kara Tīpuna kapa haka competition in the Wairau.
Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō rangatahi participated across a number of groups, including the Marlborough Girls’ College rōpū, Te Kapahaka o Te Riu o Te Wairau, which was led by Te Ao Marama Nepia. The iwi was also proud to support the day as a key sponsor.
Organiser Whaea Louisa King, from Marlborough Girls’ College, said the event had not been held in several years and it was exciting to see the enthusiasm of the students. She said she hoped the competition would one day be reinstated as a qualifying competition for national kapa haka competitions.
