As this pānui is being sent out we are getting ready to host our annual Tuia te Tāngata Whānau Day and AGM. An important part of our manaakitanga is the harvesting of tuna from Lake Rotoroa. This year we had a group of all ages participating in the harvest, and the aim was to pass down the mātauranga associated to tuna harvesting and cooking to the next generation so that it becomes a normal tikanga and occurrence for Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō. This kaupapa was led by Sonny McClaren and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Sonny said he was blessed to have the rangatahi and other pakeke participate and felt good that this cultural practice for our Iwi will continue into the future.
The tuna is considered an expression of our Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tōtanga and enjoyed by all at the hākari.
